Briefing notes

Our monthly breakfast briefing series on FinTech got off to a slightly stuttering start in June (though many thanks to Innovate Finance’s Dan Morgan for rescuing us). But I hope we are back on track.

What is clear from the impressive turn-out at the first meeting is that there is an appetite for a regular tour d’horizon of what is going on in the FinTech space – sector-wide developments, specific innovations, conferences/seminars etc, and industry gossip (if we have any). To that, I think we could also add RegTech – another scary growth area. Not everyone in the industry can know everything, but we all have to have a pretty good overview of what is going on. So, we are delighted to have been able to put together a ‘caring-and-sharing’ group modelled (loosely) on our Brussels for Breakfast series.

Leading the discussion (I hope, on a regular basis) will be Izabella Kaminska, who has been covering technology for FT Alphaville since she joined in 2008. Before that, she worked as a producer at CNBC, a natural gas reporter at Platts and an associate editor at BP. She comes highly recommended.

Backing her up this month will be Julian Skan – a managing director in Accenture’s financial services practice, and the executive sponsor of the FinTech Innovation Lab here in London. He is a former head of the UK banking practice, and has 27 years’ experience “eviscerating banks using innovation as the surgical tool – usually without anaesthetic” (his words).

As always, the intention/hope is that participants will be able to add their two-penn’orth. This, after all, is not an area (yet) where knowledge is a zero-sum game – at least I hope not.
