Life after PSD2: preparing for the new world of payments.

To be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2017, 6.30-8.00pm

  • Michael Aragona (Mizuho)

  • Ruth Wandhöfer (Citi)

  • Nick Middleton (TSB).

Payments used to be one of the sleepy corners of banking. Recently, not so much.

The volume of domestic electronic payments in India has doubled in the last five years; China, quadrupled. In Europe, PSD2 promises to open up payments for businesses and consumers. Open APIs may allow individuals and corporates to optimise their financial positions as never before, and a queue of FinTechs has formed eager to take advantage.

How are payments professionals to keep up? We are pleased to welcome Michael Aragona, head of global solutions sales (Americas) at Mizuho. Mike has run transaction businesses in New York, London, Vienna, and Hong Kong, and is the lead author of a new LIBF qualification, “Principles of Payments”.

He is well-placed to speculate on where the industry is going, and how firms and individuals should prepare. In addition, I am delighted that we have two other experts to kick off the discussion:

  • Ruth Wandhöfer is the global head of regulatory & market strategy at Citi’s Transactions Services business. Ruth chairs numerous industry groups on payments regulation and technology, is a regular author on the topic, and is generally all-world on PSD2. Oh, and she speaks five languages.
  • Nick Middleton is head of payments strategy and design at TSB. A former head of payments strategy and risk at Nationwide and Lloyds Bank, he is a member of HMT’s Open Banking Working Group, and a former member of the Faster Payments board and senior sponsor for C&CCC’s cheque imaging system.

If you (or a colleague) would like to join the discussion, please call the CSFI on 020 7621 1056 or email Wine and nibbles will be available afterwards courtesy of LIBF.

Sincerely yours,

Andrew Hilton
